The Barrow: You don’t need a big blade to do big work.
The Toor Knives Barrow was built around a simple idea: you don’t need a big blade to do big work.
In the knife world, capability is often associated with size, thicker steel, longer blades, and more weight. But years of hunting, field use, and knife design have shown us something different. For much of the detailed cutting done in the field, the most important part of the blade is the front half, specifically the tip and belly. That observation became the foundation for the Barrow, a lightweight Made in the USA hunting knife designed to deliver the control and capability of a full-size fixed blade without unnecessary size or weight.

Designed by Connor Toor, the Barrow began as a purpose-built backcountry hunting knife for hunters who pay attention to every ounce they carry. Through years of field experience, we found that nearly 90 percent of intricate cutting work happens toward the front of the blade. Whether skinning game, making precise cuts, working around joints, processing an animal, or handling everyday camp tasks, the tip and belly are where much of the real work gets done. Instead of building another oversized fixed blade, the Barrow was designed around the portion of the knife people actually use most.
The result is a midsize blade paired with a full-size ergonomic handle. This combination is one of the defining characteristics of the Barrow. Many compact knives reduce both the blade and the handle, which can sacrifice comfort, leverage, and control. The Barrow takes a different approach. The blade is kept efficient and compact while the handle remains large enough to provide a secure, confident grip during extended use. For hunters, outdoorsmen, tactical professionals, and anyone who relies on a fixed blade in the field, that full-size grip makes a meaningful difference when the work gets serious.

At just 2.29 ounces, the Barrow is an exceptionally lightweight fixed blade, but its low weight was never achieved at the expense of capability. The full-tang frame is aggressively skeletonized beneath the handle scales, removing unnecessary material while maintaining the strength and feel of a traditional fixed blade. The result is a knife that nearly disappears on a belt, pack, chest rig, or loadout, yet feels substantial and controlled once it is in your hand. For anyone looking for an ultralight hunting knife, outdoorsman knife, or compact tactical knife, the Barrow delivers serious capability in a remarkably efficient package.
The blade itself is constructed from CPM MagnaCut, one of the most advanced steels available for modern field knives. MagnaCut provides an exceptional balance of toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance, making it particularly well suited for hunting, outdoor, tactical, and backcountry environments. Blood, moisture, dirt, weather, and hard field use can all take a toll on a blade, which is why material selection matters. The Barrow’s MagnaCut construction helps it maintain dependable cutting performance while resisting corrosion in demanding environments.
Its ultra-thin blade profile and full-face bevel were developed specifically around cutting efficiency. Rather than carrying unnecessary thickness behind the edge, the Barrow is designed to move cleanly through material and perform precise cutting tasks with minimal resistance. The full-face bevel also provides substantial sharpening life over the lifespan of the knife, allowing the edge to be maintained repeatedly without quickly changing the knife’s intended geometry. A durable KG Gunkote finish adds another layer of protection for hunters, outdoorsmen, and tactical users who expect their equipment to perform in harsh conditions.

The Barrow is available with both G10 and Walnut handle options, giving the knife two distinct personalities while maintaining the same core performance. G10 provides a modern, durable, and highly functional handle suited for hard-use environments and demanding field conditions. Walnut connects the Barrow to the heritage of the traditional American hunting knife, combining natural materials with modern MagnaCut steel and contemporary manufacturing. Both configurations use durable stainless steel hardware and are designed to provide the secure, comfortable grip required for serious field work.
Although the Barrow was originally conceived as an ultralight hunting knife, its design quickly proved useful far beyond the hunt. A compact blade, full-size handle, extremely low weight, and premium steel make it equally effective as an outdoorsman knife, backcountry knife, camp knife, and lightweight tactical fixed blade. It can ride easily on a hunting pack, belt, chest rig, or tactical kit without adding unnecessary bulk, making it an excellent option for people who need dependable cutting capability while keeping their equipment streamlined.
That versatility is intentional. Good knife design is not always about adding more features, more steel, or more size. Sometimes it is about understanding what actually matters and removing everything else. The Barrow gives you the part of the blade where most of the work happens, the full-size handle needed to control it, premium materials engineered for demanding environments, and almost nothing you do not need. It is a knife built around efficiency rather than excess.
