Tropic Thunder Merchant: The New Hybrid Handle
Hello Toor Team!
First, THANK YOU all for the continued support and dedication to our products – as I’ve said before, we couldn’t do it without YOU! Over the last six months, we have been working our asses off to continue developing not only our fixed blade product line, but also all our folding knives. We are beyond excited to announce the latest development in our Folding Series, the Hybrid Handle, which we are premiering this week on the Tropic Thunder Merchant Tanto drop!
Since the beginning, Toor Knives has been dedicated to providing hard use tools primarily to the Tactical and Outdoor markets. As we have developed over the years, we have been able to focus our innovations on a few key factors, one of them being handle textures that help the end user operate in unforgiving environments. As a result, we’ve launched multiple series of experimental handle textures during this time, all in order to find the best grip and comfort solutions.
However, when we first announced our inaugural line of folding knives in 2021, we were only capable of producing smooth side, titanium scales for the blades. This got away from our original goal of innovating and producing tools that could be trusted in any environment. So, we took our efforts back to the drawing board and set off on a journey to design and implement a hybrid style handle that uses a composite material on half of the blade, allowing us to implement grip on all folding knives. This was our mission, to modernize our Folding Series knives, as well as execute several tactical improvements for the blades.
At first, we started by running the entire non-locking side of the blade handle in G10 and carbon fiber. This gave us the texture and tactical colors we were looking for but made it increasingly difficult to maintain accurate tolerances without having some form of metal structure securing the handle. That is when we decided to focus our efforts on manufacturing a separate liner out of stainless steel which would sit under the G10, allowing for a smoother opening action, as well as a bit more structural integrity for the entire handle. At last, we were able to create an innovative solution that allowed us to utilize all our tactical handle colors and textures into our Folding Series, while simultaneously maintaining the same price point and value.
This is a HUGE step for us as a company, and we are INCREDIBLY stoked to offer this first round of modifications on our Merchant 2.0 Tanto blade with a Tropic Beaded Camoâ„¢ paint job!
Moving forward, we remain dedicated to implementing the Hybrid Handle across most of our Folding Series knives, to provide more color and texture options. We will never stop developing, prototyping, and manufacturing tools that we believe provide key solutions to the operators using them. The entire team here in San Diego thanks you all for the continued success, and more importantly, the opportunity to continue to learn!
Our Tropic Thunder Merchant Tanto is the first batch of Hybrid Handle knives and will be available Thursday, July 21st at 5pm PST in limited numbers, so don't miss out!
